Portico explores the history and significance of the sites cared for by English Heritage. Over the next five years we aim to build Portico into an online library of information on each property – over 400 in all. Every entry will include a concise history and description of the site, an explanation of its significance, and a summary of past and future research issues. Extensive lists of sources for each site also provide an entry point to further knowledge and to the resources available at English Heritage and beyond. So far there are detailed entries on 44 sites and summary entries for a further 200 lesser-known properties.
