Post date: Apr 24, 2015 2:41:50 PM
Attendees: Cornelia, Gaia, Camilla, Mose', Michele, Ignasi
Missioni: 6k euro available; 7k more are sub-judice, of which 3-4k will be used for Cornelia's shift. Then:
* Cornelia, Mose', Michele, Alessandro, Ignasi are going to the MAGIC Collaboration meeting, Zeuthen.
* Alessandro will attend two meetings in the Canaries, budget of ~600 euro each.
* Cornelia, Mose', Michele, Alessandro, Ignasi and maybe Camilla are going to MAGIC meeting in fall.
News:
* Michele gave a seminar yesterday at Nova Gorica. PhD positions are available there!
* Cornelia and Ignasi have no laptops at the moment, and will purchase new Macs for the group. Cornelia is taking care (thanks!).
Status of the theses
------------------------------
Gaia:
- Has made a verification analysis of Crab data.
- Is ready to produce the spectrum of the Galactic Centre, and to apply her method to evaluate the possible dark matter content.
- Expected Laurea: ~25 July.
Camilla: (slides below)
- Has tested a quite promising data-selection method, and has a set of 41.5h of good quality, period ST03.03 (=recent) data
- Has processed the data up to the point of having a nice theta-square distribution. Prospect is to measure flux and evaluate dark matter content, as in Gaia's case.
- Caveats: we (picky commenters of her presentation) find two things to check. First, verify that hadron data selection for RF production has sufficient coverage of high Zd. Then, verify that the PSF at low energies is as good as 0.054 deg (as she has estimated from Crab data).
General analysis difficulties
-----------------------------------------
Michele: (slides below)
- Has reproduced Camilla's analysis in parallel, for training purposes.
- Has realised problems with the data availability: the PIC data base reports more data than what later can be downloaded. To be investigated...
- Also, caspar and flute produce some plots that are difficult to interpret, or may be wrong (see slides 7 and 9, for instance).
Ignasi:
- Reports on a stupid problem with star response and camera that prevents him from going ahead in the SUM-trigger simulation.
- In parallel, has encountered some difficulties in the standard analysis, namely:
* Standard mars release 2-14-4 has a bug in coach (an probably also in melibea), so it is needed to use the unreleased 2-14 branch, that contains a fix.
* To open recent MC files, root 5.34.21 or latter is needed, but with these modern root versions we cannot compile MARS at PD. Also under investigation...
* The incompatibility between our ROOT/MARS versions and those from PIC gives problems when transferring files from one data center to the other.
- Also asks about the analysis with missing trigger pattern.
