Special finishes were completed to each skirt.
A finishing touch for any bridal outfit is a personalised label - for this wedding I chose name ones for each outfit. Machine embroidered onto some spare fabric, they were stitched to skirts, petticoats & sashes.
Both the satin & voile layers were to have press-studs along the back opening - from waist to floor. (On the eldest bridesmaid's skirt, only the zip area had studs - see 'Zip' below.) On the satin layer, these were small metal ones which were stitched to the self-facings to remain invisible when closed.
For the voile, the studs were small clear plastic ones which again were stitched to the small self-facing.
Here the voile opening is overlaying that of the satin one.
The waistband of each skirt was fastened with an extra large press-stud as well as a large hook & bar (see right & 'Completion' in section 7.
As the eldest bridesmaid skirt was possibly to be used for other functions (& sometimes without the petticoat), a full back opening was not made. Instead a waist zip was inserted into the satin with just 2 press-studs (see right) used for the voile overlayer.
