Perspectives on Time in Network Dynamics

Instructor: Ron Burt

The role of time in social network analysis expands yearly as analytical sophistication escalates, and data become more available in greater precision. But too easily, sophistication and ready data fail to yield value in the absence of substantive knowledge about behavior and opinion in social networks. This mini-module will be a brief exploration of research in four perspectives on thinking about time and social network mechanisms: processes in time, time as a medium for sequences of events and behaviors, time as alters see it, and time as ego sees it. Nothing to prepare. Come curious. If something strikes your fancy, you can look into it after the session.
