With this skill, your character can create one of two types of focus to cast spells with.
The cheapest form of focus is the parchment focus, which all focus magic users start their career with. To create a parchment focus, you must write down the vocals of the spell onto the parchment. You can only create a parchment focus for a spell that you already know. When creating a parchment for yourself you must use a special magical ink called “Self Ink”, this is an expensive focus liquid which will attune the focus to the creator, and therefore no one else may use it. “Unattuned Ink” can be used to create a focus that will attune itself to the first person to use it and is used for creating a focus for another person. “Unattuned Ink” is more expensive that “Self Ink” and both are sold in a vial containing just one drop, enough to write the vocals for one spell once. Each spell must be written a number of times over itself equal to the power cost of the spell, for example, a fireball spell costs four power and to create a focus for this spell requires four vials of ink and the spell vocal to be written four times over each other.
Providing your character has at least one rank in a Trade skill such as Crafting or Smithing, You can create a durable object using at least 500 groats of raw material which will act as a focus. This type of focus, usually crafted from a cut Gem and so often called a Gem Focus, allows a character to use the item as a focus instead of a book. The process to create such a focus takes months but the focus created can only be used by its creator and it is not possible to create such a focus for another person or to use one that you yourself have not created.
