KANSAS DEPARTMENT FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES

The Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) was formed July 1, 2012 through Executive Reorganization Order Number 41, issued by Governor Sam Brownback. DCF’s predecessor, the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services (SRS) was established in 1973 as an umbrella agency to oversee the delivery of social services and the provision of care to Kansans. With the reorganization of the agency the Disability and Behavioral Health Services division of SRS, as well as oversight of the five state hospitals moved to the newly named Department for Aging and Disability Services. DCF retained its children and adult protection services, adoption services, foster care support, child support services, welfare and food assistance programs, as well as services dedicated to vocational rehabilitation, among others.

All publications issued before July 1, 2012 can be found under “Kansas. Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services” (KSDOCs number SR)
