Another year, another One Sky One World (was it really a year since the last one?). This time I planned to go with the family - I could go and do the kite thing, and the others could amuse themselves with the attractions at Rufford. Everything was fine - forecast was good, kites were loaded, drinks sorted out and (at least for me) looking forward to it.
Sadly we arrived with daughter number two feeling very travel sick - so my "hellos" to other Midland Kite Fliers took place with poor No 2 being sick in the background. Once she felt better I got down to some kite flying. As the wind was low at ground level (it's a tree lined site) I got out the HQ Shadow and flew that for a while. There were some single line kites up at a high level (plenty of wind up there) and another chap flying, I think, a Spirit of the Air delta kite - which performed very well given the low wind conditions. After a while it was time for the Custom Revolution 1.5 SUL on my longer line set - this generally worked well - just I had to remember where the flying lines for the aforementioned single line kites were! Seeing someone with a fighter kite reminded me that I had brought my fighter kites - so off I went to play with it. Still difficult to launch still but loads of fun once it's flying.
During the course of the day the wind picked up slightly - which meant more kites were up in the air, including some nice display kites. I had a brief go with my Ozone Razor 3.5 - a traction kite seen amongst single kites, gasp! Good fun flying it though - enough wind to fly without any risk of being pulled forward or anything.
After a nice lunch at the Rufford cafe (good food and good value in my opinion) I set about my afternoon of flying - more Revolution and Delta flying, with the Freedom 2000 (complete with the Magic Sticks I fitted to hold some LED lights for night flying), Benson Gemini, and Prism Illusion all getting a good fly. There seemed to be a good load of kites flown that afternoon - from more single line, to other dual line kites, with even another traction kite being flown in the other field.
It was again nice to catch up with my fellow MKF fliers and my family had a nice time exploring Rufford whilst Dad (me) played with his kites. And so at five o clock it was time to pack up and go home.
