Kilcoo got their season off to a perfect start after they claimed a three point victory against their local rivals Bryansford on Sunday at a sunny St Patricks Park.
The defending champions started perfectly and scored three points in a row these scores coming from Dominic McEvoy, Ollie McClean and Cillian Laverty. The Ford replied with a well worked team move which ended in a fisted point.
A Seamus Brannigan free reduced the Magpies lead to a single point but two frees from Martin and Sean Devlin meant the lead was back to three. Bryansford never give up and hit two unanswered points just before the break which meant the half time score was Bryansford 0-4 Kilcoo 0-5
At the start of the second half Bryansford were dealt a huge blow when there midfielder got a straight red card for striking. Kilcoo made this man advantage count when Martin Devlin scored a long range point to extended his sides lead.
The Ford were not dead and buried yet and took the lead for the first time in the game when Johnny Cunningham drove the ball into the Kilcoo net much to delight of the home support. This was a wakeup call for the defending champions and they responded two minutes later when Marty Devlin converted a free.
Sean Devlin then converted two frees within three minutes to give the Kilcoo the lead again. Marc Brannigan converted a free which meant there was only a single point between the teams. This set the game up for a tense finale.
The game was set up for a tense finale however the Magpies scored two points without reply through Martin and Sean Devlin which sealed the two points for the visitors who showed why they are the champions after grinding out this result.
