Kilcoo GAC AGM 2020 takes place via the internet on 1st December at 8.00pm
After the millennium there was a lot of interest expressed in Ladies Football within the county. In 2004 those who were interested in Kilcoo club got together for preliminary discussions and in September 2005 Sean Devlin approached the committee to see if this idea could get off the ground. Everyone seemed to be in agreement and in early January 2006 a meeting was held to see how many players would be available for an underage team and possibly a senior team. There was great enthusiasm and on a Sunday morning in May 2006 the training began in earnest for underage players. Over thirty players took part under guidance of Sean Devlin, Madeline Docherty, Catriona Devlin and Chara Laverty. History was made on Thursday 29th June 2006 U12 girls played their first challenge match against Newry Shamrocks and smartly turned out they were in their new sponsored jerseys.
The team was formed in 2006 by Conor Laverty & Gary McEvoy, over the years a number of the girls had been playing football for neighbouring clubs namely Castlewellan, Clonduff & Bryansford. They started to play competitive games in the Junior league in 2007, that year they reached the Championship final but got beat by Rostrevor. They moved into the Intermediate league in 2008 reaching the championship final, but once again were runners up following a defeat by Carryduff. This year they have started of slowly in the league but the team has been building up steadily to the Championship Final. Senior Ladies got going with training every Tuesday night and later in the season in St Malachys High School. Again the numbers are big and this time the ladies were under the strict regime of Gary McEvoy and Conor Laverty. Everything is now in place for 2007 season.
