Kilcoo GAC AGM 2020 takes place via the internet on 1st December at 8.00pm
After many years of having no Camogie in the parish, 1994 was the year it all began again. From then we have grown in strength with a Senior Team & various Under Age Teams, U14, 12 & 10, 8 & 6’s. It has been a rocky road but every season the girls turn up with more determination, 2004 we were runners up in the Junior Camogie Championship, after 6 years of working hard in 2010 we won The Div 4 Championship but of course all that was marred with controversy, this however did not put us off & in 2011 when faced with stronger & more experienced teams in Div 3 we proved that we had the fight & determination not to be put down, that season ended with us coming joint 3rd in a more challenging and competitive league.
The work that has been put in at club level has reaped its rewards with many stars soaring onto our County Panels at various age levels. Most recent achievement was when our U16 County won the All Ireland with Kilcoo being represented by Mary Clare Grant. We also had a representative at U14 Level with Chloe McCusker. We hope that this continues & that many more follow in their footsteps.
As for our under age girls, they never cease to amaze us with their eagerness to play. We hope this year is as big a success as last year. The season has already kicked of with our U10’s participation already in a blitz in Longstone. This was a very competitive tournament with great skill shown by all.
All of this could not be possible without the vast amount of hard work & dedication given by so many volunteers: at Senior Level, Annemarie McAneney & Eileen Grant.Managers of U6/U8 camogie, Cathy Grant and Colleen Grant. Manager of U10/U12 camogie, Sheila Kelly together with coach's Colleen Grant and Danny Fettes. Managers of U14/U16, Cathy Grant and Colleen Grant together with coach Chara Laverty.
We have been lucky to have been able to secure sponsors for both Senior & Underage, this year our Seniors have a new sponsor, Emmet J Kelly & Co, Solicitors, U6, U8 & U10, Red Alert, U12 camogs, Joe Curran Contracts, James Fitzpatrick & Mark Ward, all of which we gratefully appreciate.

The Chairman's Camogie Speech for the 2013 Annual Dinner Dance
After many years of no camogie in the parish, the camogie club reformed again in 1994. From then on the camogie club have grown in strength, with a senior team and various underage teams ranging from, U6 upwards, right through to U16.
The club made great progress on the 5th May, 2012, in Navan, in which, Marie Claire Grant was choosen to play for the Down County Minor team, winning both the All-Ireland and taking the title as Ulster Champions. This success was the result of a lot of hard work and dedication, and Marie Claire herself has been an inspiration for the club and in particular for the underage camogs who aspire to show the same dedication, skill and determination.Another great achievement within the club was when three of our young camogs were choosen to play for the U14 Down Development Squad, namely, Megan Devlin, Amanda Wood and Rhia Doherty together with their coach/mentor Cathy Grant, who also has deservedly achieved a pivitol role within the U14 Down Camogie Management, which further brought great recognition for our ever growing camogie club.
Not only that, but we also had five of our U15 girls represent St Malachy's High School, Castlewellan, winning the Ulster Final and got to the All Ireland Semi-Final, and they are, Siofra and Ciara McCrickard, Megan Devlin, Chloe McCusker and Amanda Wood. Well done girls. This success was due to the result of a lot of hard training and dedication and I as the Chairman of the Club, would like to formally recognise the contributions of all those involved, the players, coaches/management, Cathy and Colleen Grant, for their time and commitment and who were instrumental to the girls success.
On behalf of the camogie club, I would like to thank Elaine Burns, the camogie secretary, who has co-ordinated the club activities throughout the year, with regard to matches, meetings and fundraising. For all the additional work she does in the background for the club in general and for attending all the County Board meetings on behalf of the camogie club. Due to her professionalism and effiencey as club secretary, she was subsequently approached by the Down County Camogie Board to sit on the Transfers, Hearings and Disciplinary Committee. I think this is a true testament to all that Elaine endeavors within the camogie club. Keep up the good work!
With regards to the underage camogie, their has been a significant and positive turnaround and change from all aspects. Together with new coaches/management, there has been an increased recruitment of underage players. The club have witnessed numbers of up to 60 and over young camogs training each week on our pitches. The Coaches involved ensure that the children benefit significantly from our games by promoting a positive, healthy and participatory approach in their work with the underage girls. Sheila, Danny, Cathy and Colleen (coaches), encourage enjoyment and fun and very importantly implementing and improving the young camogs skills! Their unfailing dedication to underage camogie within the club is beginning to pay dividends with many of the current squad a product of their coaching and mentoring. There is a lot of talent and young and up and coming true County stars in the making! As Chairman, I would like to take the opportunity on behalf of the camogie club to thank all the parents for their support, and for encouraging their children to play for their club and County. To the young camogs, YOU are a credit to our club and to your families. Congratulations and keep up the good work, well done.
Terry O'Hanlon
Chairman

Attical underage Camogie Blitz.
Attical hosted the regional underage camogie blitz on Sunday 9th June. Kilcoo entered a team in each section. Both U6 and U8 teams faired very well with the U10 team undefeated! The U10's first match was up against An Riocht in which the Kilcoo girls defeated the Kingdom by two points. This was a truly competitive game. The level of skill displayed is proof that the game of camogie continues to go from strength to strength in Kilcoo. In their second game against Longstone the U10's played and tackled relentlessly coming out on top defeating Longstone by one point. There were only three games played and in their final game the young camogs battled it out with Attical, winning by three goals. All girls played with great determination and grit, together with a positive attitude and confidence in all their games. They showed great skill in passing and executing scores. Midfielders, Clionagh McConville, Megan Rogan, Ellen Kelly/Shanna Fettes, worked tirelessly throughout each game. Megan Rogan scored an amazing missile-like shot into the nets from midfield! The forward line played tremendously well together, with goal scorers, Ellen Kelly, Shanna Fettes and Aoife Shaw. These girls fought to the bitter end. In the defence line, Grainne McAneaney, Sian Doherty, Ciarrai Doherty and Kelly McEvoy (goals), fielded with determination and purpose. Congratulations to all the girls who played with great pride and skill. Joint players of the match were awarded to Megan Rogan and Ellen Kelly. Well Done to all!
Cathy Grant with U6 Players
Colleen Grant with U8 Players
Sheila Kelly with U10 Players
A big congratulations to U12 dual camogie/football player Erin O'Hanlon, who has been choosen to represent Kilcoo at the Go Games day out in Croke Park on Tuesday 9th July. Sheila Kelly, U12 Coach, speaks highly of Erin and her impressive playing skills in camogie. It is the dream of every young Irish girl brought up in the GAA tradition that some day she will get to play on the hallowed grounds of Croke Park! However, for this young girl that dream has become a reality. Erin has great tenacity, a positive attitude to her sport and is a great role model for the much younger camogs! She is a delight and a breath of fresh air to coach. Erin is always willing to please and perform at her upmost best. She is passionate about her camogie and if she is not playing/training at the pitch, she is often seen in the village with the hurl in her hand with her other camogie friends! Erin will join 95 other U12 players throughout Down for this special occasion. They will have access to the hallowed Croke Park Pitch from 9.30am to 11am during which time children representing every club in the county will participate in small sided games of camogie and football. The day will also include a free tour of the famous Croke Park Stadium and Museum. Well done Erin!
