Kilcoo 3-13 Downpatrick 2-2
Kilcoo bounced back from last Friday nights defeat against Castlewellan with a comfortable victory over Downpatrick on Friday night at a wet and windy Owen Roe Park on Friday night.
Playing against the wind in the first half Kilcoo scored the first point of the game when Gary McEvoy fisted the ball over the bar in the fifth minute. The visitors then took advantage of playing with the wind when they played the ball long and it was finished to the net by the corner forward Johnny Collins.
The Hoops then registered their first point of the game when Karl Oakes converted a free in the fifth minute this gave them a three point advantage. Kilcoo responded through points from Jerome Johnston and Paul Devlin. Oakes converted another free in the fifteenth minute to extend their lead to two points.
The Magpies scored their first goal of the game from the penalty spot which was converted by Paul Devlin. Devlin then added a point in first half stoppage time to give the home side a two point lead at half time.
Kilcoo got off to the perfect start in the second half when Devlin hit two great long range points with his left foot and then in the 42nd minute Aidan Branagan delivered a great long ball into Devlin who lashed the ball into the net. Donal Kane added a free a minute later to extend the home sides lead to eight points.
In the 45th minute Downpatrick caught the home side off guard when they put together a well worked move which was fisted into the net by Sean Bell.
The Magpies then upped their game by another gear in the final quarter and scored points through Devlin, Felim McGreevy and Darragh. In the 58th minute Devlin completed his hat-trick and sealed the victory for the home side when his shot looked like it was going over the bar but it lobbed over the keeper and landed in the bottom corner of the net.
Two points from Sean Devlin and one from substitute Martin Devlin completed the scoring for Kilcoo who regained top spot after this victory.
