During my student teaching experience, I worked closely with the Everyday Math curriculum. We were able to work at a 1 lesson every 2 days pace, which allowed us to go more in-depth with the curriculum content. In this particular lesson, we were working on displaying data on a line plot and finding the median of a set of data. This is a tough concept for students to grasp. They often get confused on the processes involved with these two concepts, so it was important to make the processes easy for them. I really enjoyed working with the Everyday Math curriculum because it was nicely laid out and very easy to follow. The original pacing plan seems to move a little more quickly then I would like, but the theory that consistent exposure is a more effective way to teach math then mastery the first time around does make sense.
Below is the lesson plan and materials I used to implement this particular lesson on finding the median and plotting data.
