The first activity I got to do with my new group of fourth graders was on our very first day of fourth grade. We created a Classroom Procedures Matrix that was adapted from our PBIS Behavior Matrix that the school created. I made this Google Doc, and then shared it with 6 of my fourth graders. We broke up into 5 groups and worked on a Chromebook to fill in a column of the Matrix (EX: H group- What does it look like, sound like, feel like, etc to Have Respect in each of these areas of the classroom at those specific times?) We worked for about 8 minutes and then rotated with our group to the next station, and followed the same procedure until all groups had gotten a chance to contribute to each column of the Matrix. Once the Matrix was completely filled out, we came together as a class and fine-tuned our contributions until it was exactly how we wanted it. After that, I printed out the Matrix and each of the students signed it, as their pledge to Have respect, Act responsibly, Work together, Keep positive, and Strive to do our best every single day in our classroom!
