Post date: Mar 12, 2014 4:24:35 PM

The Fighting Mage

Elves and Half-Elves can be Fighting Mages

He has prime requisites of 9 Str and 9 Int, and gains +10% experience if he has 15 or higher in each.

An Fighting Mage can use all the items, weapons and magic useable by either a Fighter or a Magic-User with the following exceptions: He never learns to use a shield, and must keep his off-hand free for spell-casting. He can't wear armor heavier than scale mail and cast spells except for elven chainmail or magical armor of any type. A Fighting Mage can't learn evocation spells which do damage, nor activate them from magical items that aren't also useable by fighters, having eschewed them in favor of fighting with a sword. The Fighting mage can move and defend himself while casting spells, thus doesn't lose his dexterity bonus while doing so. He can also cast spells upon his weapon, weather melee or missile, which take effect when he hits, he may choose to have a spell affect only the target, or an area as normal, such spells fade after his level in rounds if he doesn't hit anyone with his weapon.

A fighting mage gets exceptional strength as a fighter, as well as receives bonus hit points from Con as a fighter.

Elves are limited to 13th level as a Fighting Mage (If using UA +2 levels for single classed and use the better of fighter or magic-user for the limit with the minimum ability scores for both)
