2010 - 2011 season

Spring Concert, April 29 and 30, 2011

BWV 187 - Es wartet alles auf dich.
An amazing work, composed by Bach in 1726 as part of his 3rd annual cycle of cantatas.
Bach subsequently used material from this cantata in BWV 235, a mass in G minor.

Es wartet alles auf dich, daß du ihnen Speise gebest zu seiner Zeit.
Everything depends on you, so that you give food to them at the right time.
Wenn du ihnen gibest, so sammlen sie,
     When you give it to them, then they gather;
wenn du deine Hand auftust, so werden sie mit Güte gesättiget.
when you open your hand, then they will be satiated by your kindness.

BWV 158 - Der Friede sei mit dir.

With the Juneau Symphony, April 2 and 3, 2011

 BWV 60 - O Ewigkeit, du Donnerwort.
The closing chorale of this cantata was quoted by Berg in his violin concerto.
The chorale melody, and especially Bach's harmonization, are very modern,
  and clearly appealed to Berg.
We will perform the concluding chorale, and possibly other portions of the cantata,
in the Juneau Symphony's spring concert.

Christmas Concert: December 18 and 19, 2010
BWV 147 - Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben
This cantata, featuring the famous arrangement of Jesu, joy of man's desiring, for chorus and orchestra, is one of Bach's best-known and often performed works.
