Match against The Aularians at Huntercombe, Friday 25th March
An 8-a-side match was played in great spirit, helped by excellent weather and the on-course refreshments provided by the Aularian's non-playing captain, Chris Atkinson. The result was a narrow 5-3 win for St John's.

Match against Christ's for the Lady Margaret Beaufort Trophy at Huntercombe, Thursday 12th May
This match has resulted in a tie on 5 of the 6 occasions that it has been played previously. In an attempt to break the sequence of halved matches, the format was modified to 12 foursome matches. It appeared for a while that even this change may not have worked as the score at lunch was 3-3, and after the first four matches in the afternoon was still tied at 5-5. However Christ's were victorious in the final 2 matches to come home with a 7-5 victory.
This match was also played in very pleasant weather, sunny with a moderate breeze. The photograph below was taken after a good Huntercombe lunch
Cambridge meeting, 28/29th July

All enjoyed the competition and it is hoped that this will continue in future years.
After a very good dinner in The Wordsworth Room, Mike Sweeney gave an excellent talk on his experiences in The Boat Race, both as an oarsman and umpire.

The Competition for The Marshall Hall Cup was played over the John O'Gaunt course in rather hot conditions. Roger Palin won the Posnett Salver. In the afternoon, the winners were Ian Saunders and Paul Baker who played the 9 holes in level par to come home with 23 points, followed by James Fox and Nigel Snaith with 22 points. Sunningdale again welcomed the Johnian Golf Society with their customary generous hospitality. The match result was a 3-3 tie, which was a significant improvement over the rather one sided match in 2021.
A return match at Royal Worlington followed by dinner in College has been pencilled in for Friday 25th August 2023.
