Match against the Aularians (St Edmund Hall, Oxford), Huntercombe GC, Thursday 21st March.
This is always a very enjoyable fixture with teams of 12 playing singles stableford. Coffee and bacon rolls on arrival followed by golf and lunch. Final cost tbc, but I would expect that this would be similar to last year (£90 including catering, a small allowance for prizes and gratuities. £36 for Huntercombe members).
Cambridge Inter-College Alumni golf competition, Gog Magog GC, Thursday 25th April
Having just lost out to Fitzwilliam last year it would be good if we could reclaim the honours for St Johns.
Team of 6 with a maximum WHI of 28 for both men and women. 5 players will play on the Old Course and 1 (probably the lowest handicap) on the Wandlebury.
Meet for coffee before golf from 9:30 am
Pre-dinner drinks in the Fellow’s Garden at Fitzwilliam at 7:30 followed by Dinner and prizegiving in Hall at 8:15.
The cost of the golf (including coffee, tea and biscuits, and sandwiches) without dinner will be £60.00 for non members of Gogs and £10.00 for members of Gogs, and the cost of the 3 course dinner in Fitzwilliam (including pre dinner drinks) will be £70.00.
Match against Christ’s College for the Lady Margaret Beaufort Trophy, Huntercombe GC, Thursday 16thMay
Christ’s are the current holders of the Lady Margaret Beaufort Trophy following a narrow victory last year. The format will again be teams of 12 playing 36 holes of foursomes.
I am pleased that the cost will be the same as last year; £143 for non-members and £48 for members to include coffee and bacon rolls, lunch and prizes and hopefully a contribution towards drinks.
Cambridge meeting, Thursday 25th and Friday 26th July playing at John O’Gaunt GC
The details are still to be finalised but I would anticipate that similar arrangements to last year with a friendly match against the College Staff on the Thursday and 18 holes for the (virtual) Marshall Hall Cup over the John O’Gaunt Old followed by an optional few holes on the Carthagenia course after lunch. Hopefully we will be able to dine in The Wordsworth Room and stay in College on both evenings.
Match against Sunningdale GC, Saturday October 19th
Again the details are still being worked. Based on feedback after the 2023 match we will look at having dinner at Sunningdale after the match rather than the traditional light lunch beforehand.
