Artifact: Marquardt's Masters Saying
Reflection: The saying attached here is one I drafted at the beginning of the school year to help my students understand my vision for them while also providing them daily affirmations to uplift and empower them as learners. Having students lead these affirmations for their peers each day has promoted a positive and safe classroom community. It is also one way I explicitly communicate my high expectations for all students every day.
Artifact: Take a Break Slips
Reflection: It is important to me that my students feel comfortable expressing their emotions within our classroom. It is also important to me that they learn how to handle those emotions in positive ways. Having a specific break space in our classroom that all students understand and have had an opportunity to practice using helps create a safe environment. Allowing students to reflect on their emotions and strategies in the framework of being ready to learn again also communicates the culture of learning in our classroom.
