Description
This certificate shows my completion of the Title IX Compliance Overview Training. Title IX is an essential law for building leaders to be aware of. The law protects members of our school community, including students and staff, from discrimination based on sex and requires that schools provide an environment free from sex-based hostility.Â
Reflection
Building leaders must understand the law and their responsibilities within it to protect our people. I have been trained in the language of the law and have, unfortunately, witnessed the process that is followed when there is a complaint related to Title IX. I am prepared to lead a building that protects its people from discrimination.

Description
This is a discipline matrix that I assisted with updating in response to legislative language changes regarding consequences in elementary school buildings, particularly for students in grades kindergarten through 3rd grade.
Reflection
The building leader must understand and implement practices that align with state legislation and district board policies. When the language of legislation or a board policy changes, the leader must modify building procedures to align with updates. In doing so, they must also be aware of how the changes will impact all student populations, including those receiving special education services, to ensure that updates are within the rules of special education law.
Subcompetencies: 1, 3
Description
This is a sample of a report I helped to draft to meet the new reporting requirements of Minnesota's READ Act legislation. We utilized tools and resources we already had access to (Fastbridge, Educlimber) to draft a tool that provided quality information to families, was manageable for teachers, and provided a simplified paper trail for documentation purposes.
Reflection
Leaders must be aware of legislation requirements to follow through with the expectations. Likewise, leaders must look for ways to implement the requirements that are manageable for staff and productive for student learning. This is particularly true when mandates come through legislation without additional funding. The building leader must be prepared to follow the language of the law and chart a course of action that is sustainable for the building's staff, students, and families.
