Description
Artifact One is our district's Local Literacy Plan. I have been part of the writing/updating this plan for the past 3 years, first as our Literacy Specialist and now as Teaching and Learning Coordinator. Although the Literacy Plan emphasizes early literacy learning, new Read Act Legislation requirements are expanding this plan to include data and planning through 12th grade.
Reflection
As the instructional leader in the building, the principal must be aware of and prepared to support all district plans and policies. The leader may also be required to support the creation of legislatively mandated documents like the Literacy Plan for the district. Having been part of writing such plans, I am prepared for my role as an instructional leader.

Description
This artifact is a sample of an agenda from a Department of Teaching & Learning Meeting I participated in. The emphasis of this agenda sample is on planning for the future of professional development for our staff to support the academic success and well-being of each student. This process is done while considering the needs of stakeholders and understanding the dynamics of change occurring in education. The plans being made needed ongoing modification in response to changing legislative and licensing requirements from the state. Through collaboration, the members of our department were able to plan for effectively leading our teams forward.
Reflection
Participation in the District's Department of Teaching and Learning has prepared me to serve as an instructional leader. As a principal, one must support teachers and staff in implementing curriculum, instruction, and assessment to promote the school district's mission, vision, and core values.
