Learning Target Area: Setting a purpose for student learning is an essential part of having a purposeful learning environment. For my students, learning targets are always posted on the front board so they are visible throughout the day. These are referenced as we work on specific targets within lessons and at the end of the day as a review. Students begin each math lesson by writing the day's learning target at the top of their notebook page as a way to begin internalizing what they are working toward for the day. Aside from this learning target area at the front of my room, I also have learning targets posted near my guided reading table so they are more easily accessible to the individual groups I am working with and can be differentiated based on the needs of each reading group.
Poster: As part of creating a safe, respectful learning environment, I have hung different posters around my room. In some instances these posters have been made with the assistance of students, but others are simply reminders for the expectations of condut within our classroom. These visuals help all students feel comfortable in the classroom and safe asking for assistance.
