Student self-assessment form: The included artifact is a self-reflection form created for students to use. I used this form to assist students with assessing their own learning and behavior within the classroom. The bottom line on the form asks for students to think of one thing they might do to improve a weak area. This provided an opportunity for students to engage in planning to meet their goal for improvement. I used this as a self-reflection opportunity for students as well as a communication tool with parents at conferences.
Football Poster: The second artifact included for this criterion is an image of a progress-monitoring poster within my classroom. The football field is labeled with ‘starting out,’ ‘making progress,’ and ‘we can!’ – with the learning target written between the goal posts. Each student has a football that they move to show their progress toward reaching the goal. This required students to assess their own learning and understanding in order to honestly move their football up the field. While using this tool, we frequently discuss as a class what students feel they should be able to do to move to each area on the field. This class discussion helps each student better assess their own progress and continually reflect on their learning.
