Student Booklet and Assessment: I have included a booklet I created to guide students’ learning through a study of government in social studies as well as an assessment that followed student completion of the unit. These two items together demonstrate how I align my classroom assessment with instruction. My unit planning always begins with the Iowa Core and essential questions. This gives me a solid foundation upon which to plan the remainder of my lessons and assessments. In the example included, I created the booklet to use during instruction prior to creating the assessment, but had created both prior to teaching the material. This order ensures that my students are learning the material they will be assessed on in the manner they will be assessed. This alignment provides students the greatest chance of being successful.
