QR Code Math Review: This example of my ability to select strategies to engage students in their learning is a review activity I created for a math unit that utilizes QR codes as the mode of question delivery. Students were completing the same review questions out of the text that all other classes would have been utilizing during this time, but implementing the QR code activity and allowing students to use iPads rather than their textbooks made this review more engaging for my students. They were more motivated to work through the problems and increased their learning by completing more practice.
3-Dimensional Maps: An additional example of how I select strategies to engage all students can be seen in the image below. This image show students working collaboratively (which is an engaging strategy on its own) to create 3D maps of a particular state as a way to learn and demonstrate their understanding of geography. As students completed these maps I had no behavior issues – each student was engaged because it was a hands-on project using a new medium – salt dough. Although the map-making was only one component of this full unit, students were engaged throughout as they worked toward the final product.
