Webquest: This site is a web quest I created to engage students in the study of economics and the Midwest region in social studies. Utilizing technology as the medium for this unit was immediately engaging for students. However, I also considered students’ developmental needs and backgrounds when planning this instruction by allowing opportunities for choice throughout the unit, offering chances for both independent and collaborative work, and scaffolding the tasks to allow all students to feel successful.
Guided Reading Lesson Plan: A second example of my proficiency within this criterion can be viewed in the guided reading lesson plan I have attached. This lesson was completed with a student who is reading far below grade level and far below any of his peers within my classroom. Because of this, I elected to meet with him one-on-one in an effort to best increase his reading skills while allowing my above-level readers to meet simultaneously in their literature circle groups. Aside from planning this lesson to meet his developmental needs, I also strongly considered his interests in selecting a pirate text for this lesson. His background knowledge of pirates allowed him to make connections to the text and better practice the selected focus for instruction.
