Copy of Classroom Procedures: This artifact is a copy of the procedures I had in place within my classroom during the 2011-2012 school year. Prior to beginning the school year I determined procedures for all aspects of our classroom, setting expectations for social and behavioral success particularly. I communicated these expectations with all students and parents at the before school conferences by going over some of the most important procedures and sending a complete copy home with each family to be reviewed and referenced later. During the first week of school, my students learned these procedures through discussion, practice, and a game I created to help them identify examples and non-examples of correct behavior. I continued to review the procedures with students throughout the year to ensure continued success.
Role T-Chart: This is an example of one of the role t-charts my students created at the beginning of the 2012-2013 school year as we began our Literacy Workshop. These charts helped establish expectations for students’ socially and behaviorally during work times while also reminding them that meeting these expectations will increase academic success. Making these t-charts was a class effort, allowing everyone to both understand what the expectations were and feel more invested in seeing them followed. Intensive practice of these expectations at the beginning of the year over continually expanding periods of time has allowed the posted charts to serve as reminders through the remainder of the year with little need for frequent reminders. It has allowed my communicated high expectations to be followed through upon.
