Vocabulary Sheet: The first artifact I have included is an example of a sheet completed by students within my social studies class to learn vocabulary words. The strategies we used to learn these vocabulary words were identical to the strategies students had been using within our reading lessons to learn new vocabulary words. Relating these strategies across content areas makes it easier for students to understand new material. In addition, students first worked with a partner to read a short selection about one particular landform. They needed to use the context clues and examples provided within the text to complete their sections of the table and create an action to remember the vocabulary word prior to sharing with the rest of the class. This further integrated literacy into the lesson.
