Observation Report: The first artifact selected as representative of this criterion is an observation report from my second offical observation. Within this report, my supervisor outlined multiple ways I create a classroom culture that supports the learning of every student. First, I communicate learning goals to my students each day with an oral reminder at the beginning of the day, a second reference when we begin the lesson focused on that target, a constant visual reminder since the goals are written on our front board, and a return to the goal as a review prior to ending the day. This clear communciation of learning goals helps students stay focused and allows them all to understand the expectations of the day. Second, I begin all new units of study within my classroom with guiding questions that my students seek to answer during the unit. The questions referenced within this report are examples of the questions I provide to set a purpose for learning each day.
Guided Reading Groupings: A second example of how I create a classroom culture that supports the learning of every student is by utilizing small groups for instruction. This image shows how my students are grouped during our literacy workshop time. These smaller groups allow me to work with students more individually and to differentiate the instruction based on multiple criteria. These groups are currently structured based on reading level, but throughout the year they are flexible and may change to accomodate interests or specific skill needs. This ensures that the learning needs of each student are being met effectively.
