These are a series of lessons intended as an introduction for younger children (5-7 years approximately, though some of the resources for individual countries could be used/adapted for older children perhaps) to geography and geographical skills.
The first lesson introduces the continents, oceans and longest/largest rivers and mountains. Then, to illustrate the difference between a continent and a country, six countries, one from each continent, are chosen and their capital cities are learnt. The countries chosen were each either of importance, had a personal connection for the pupil or else had something that had already been studied and/or would be useful as a follow-on or companion project (inuit in Canada, amazon rainforest in Brazil, volcanoes in Canada and New Zealand, etc).
Then, in part two, each of these countries is studied individually - the topography, the major cities, and a little of the country's history, etc. Each lesson is presented as a complete and separate lesson in itself: in other words, you do not have to use all of them, but only those individual lessons that are of use/interest. Please note: the historical/cultural studies of each country are VERY basic. As such the information provided is exactly that: very simplified and by no means comprehensive. Older children, or children with a lot of questions, will need to have it filled out with discussion, or else there is the opportunity to go into parts of it in more detail if wanted.
Part 1: THE WORLD
Resource comprises: a blank world map and 2 pages of activities (writing on the sheets, work with an atlas and also the blank map) to learn the continents, the oceans, the longest & largest rivers and the highest mountains of the world. Then learn the difference between a continent and a country (six countries, one from each continent except Antartica are chosen). Learn the capital cities for each one, and also where Mekkah and Medinah are.
Part 2: individual country lesson resources
Each resource includes: a blank map, a sheet of activities and discussion points (using both the blank map and an atlas) & a 2-page brief, summarised 'history of the country' that can be read by or to the child. Clicking the link for any individual country will take you to a preview of the lesson document - so you can see/read it in its entirety before you download to see if it is useful or not.
