Mabuni family crest

The symbol of Shitoryu is originally the Mabuni family crest (mon), dating back many centuries.

The outer circle symbolizes WA "peace" and "harmony" , and the symmetrical inner lines represent the Japanese character for the word "human" or "person" (hito). So, the emblem can be interpreted as "people working together in peace and harmony".

Kenwa Mabuni gave another meaning to this symbol - the two inner lines representing the roots of Shitoryu: Shuri-te and Naha-te and his two main teachers, Itosu and Higaonna. So the crest symbolizes the harmonious fusion of the two schools as well as the uniqueness of Shitoryu.
