EMBUSEN

Embusen is a Japanese term literally meaning "demonstration line". It refers to the starting and ending point as well as the pattern of lines of the kata. Memorizing the more or less symmetric "floor-plan" of a kata helps karateka repeat its movements, align stances and posture as well as adjust correct directions. The higher the level of a kata is, the more complicated the pattern will be. Paying close attention to the pattern will help the karateka stay precise in the practice of kata. When studying these, we find the system of tenshin happo.
