Check List
Reliable contact information.
E-mail is the primary mode of communication. Reliable e-mail addresses of the applicant and the reference are the most important.
Membership of Econometric Society.
Because the summer school is an official program of Econometric Society, you must be a member at the time of the application. This rule is enforced without an exception. To join the Society, check the home page of the Econometric Society.
Use the same contact information and the identical spelling of your name as the membership information of the Econometric Society when you apply for the summer school, if at all possible. We are required to check the membership status of all applicants. Discrepancy in the personal information may trigger the membership checking program to mark you as "non-member."
Paper.
If you do not have or do not want to present a paper, you can skip this part, by clicking "no." Slightly less than one quarter of applicants for the summer school did not have, or chose not to present, a paper.
If you have a presentable paper, you need some preparation.
Decide which paper you want to present.
You will be asked to provide the URL link to the paper, instead of uploading a pdf file. If you have your own home page, just provide the URL link to the paper. If not, most cloud service such as Dropbox or Google Drive allows us to share a file on the web by assigning a stable address to a file.
Make it sure that the paper is set public on the web. If the paper is in a pdf file, the file should be free of password protection so that we can download the paper, without prompting you for permission. Otherwise, your paper might not be evaluated in a timely manner.
After you provide us a stable link for the paper, you can continue to work on your paper, revising the file from your end, as long as you keep the same URL address for the paper.
Letter of recommendation.
You need someone who can write a letter of recommendation for you. You will be asked to fill out the email address of your reference.
Submit the application.
After you click "submit," you cannot change your application. If you realize that you have made serious mistakes, please send an e-mail to the organizer, In-Koo Cho, with the subject line "esSummer: application" along with a brief description of the problem.
After filing an application.
When you click "submit," the application site immediately sends out two emails: the confirmation email to the applicant and the request for the recommendation letter to the reference. The request letter contains an active hyperlink to let your reference upload the letter directly to the application database.
A mail server often tags as a SPAM a machine generated message with an active hyperlink. You may find the message in your Junk or SPAM Mail folder. We have experienced that around 10 percent of messages going out of the application site has failed to reach the intended receiver.
Be sure to check with your reference whether he/she has received the request for the letter from us. If you do not receive a confirmation message from the application site, or if your reference has not received the request for the letter within 24 hours, please send an e-mail to the organizer, In-Koo Cho, with the subject line "esSummer: application" along with a brief description of the problem.
COVID-19 related constraints.
A student will be admitted on the condition that the student follows the regulations of the host institution (NUS) and the Singapore government at the event. As of today, NUS requires the participants to be fully vaccinated to enter the IMS Auditorium where the summer school is held. The local organizer needs to check the vaccination status of admitted students at the time of registration, because NUS requires all participants to provide the evidence of vaccination on the first day of the summer school. Unless the traveler can show an evidence of vaccination at the port of entry to Singapore, it is practically impossible for a foreigner to enter Singapore for a short term visit without being quarantined.
As the COVID-19 pandemic situation is evolving, the rules are changing. The local organizer will implement the regulations of NUS and the Singapore government accordingly.
