4 June 2012 -- The IDEA of the proposal is EXCELLENT. compare Bai Salam with Conventional Loans.

The METHOD used is terrible. A sloppy and irrelevant DEA analysis.

FOCUS on issues which differentiate the two:

A: Apparently, the banks complain that Bai Salam is more expensive for them. FIND OUT Why this so, look at HOW the banks calculate costs for the two, what are the components of the costs, and why one is higher than the other. Then look at what changes could be made to reduce costs for Bai Salam.

What are the other factors which matter to customers and to banks? Do customers prefer Bai Salam because of Islam, or because of conveniennce, or becausse of both? If it is more expensive for banks, it is cheaper for consumers so there is an offset?

FORMULATE RELEVANT QUESTIONS, and use relevant means to study them. Dont use IRRELEVANT STATISTICAL techniques which will reveal nothing at all about the issues under discussion.

31 Jan 2012 -- Now the revised proposal is much better. It has a clear objective and research plan. IT gives an idea of the research planned and why it would be useful. I have made some comments on the document (attached BELOW). There are some places where English is not clear. The main substantive comment is that the Lit Review is not integrated with research and appears to discuss irrelevant issues which do not relate to research objectives and questions.

This proposal is ACCEPTED for presentation -- you can make revisions and submit it to TAUQIR directly, without need for my checking it again.

17/1/2012: The proposal provides an annotated bibliography (instead of literature review), and discusses many issues related to agricultural financing. There is less than one paragraph of WHAT RESEARCH is going to be done. The entire proposal discusses what research others have done.

Currently it would appear that the student has no idea what research is planned, what questions will be investigated, how they will be investigated, what will result from the research.
