The monthly meeting of the MX-5 Owner’s Club Eastern Region on the evening of 5 October 2005 saw the end of an era.
This was Geoff Walton’s last meeting as regional coordinator before he sets off in his roadster for a new life in the sun on the Mediterranean island of Gozo. The car park of the Manger Public House in Bradfield Combust was filled with MX-5’s and Roadsters with between 40 and 50 people all gathered in the function room to give Geoff a proper send off !
Geoff was presented with a terrific framed print featuring 19 genuine Eastern Region cars and all those in attendance signed the back. Thanks to Jon Elsey for his hard work in putting the picture together and for the inspired blue and white striped wrapping paper !
Geoff took on the vacant roll of coordinator in 2002 at a time when there was very little or no Owners Club activity in the region and by the summer of 2005 the region could boast an active membership of over 50, a tribute to Geoff’s hard work and his warm welcome to all.
It was at the end of the summer of 2005 that Geoff dropped his bombshell and let it be known that he had even bigger plans for having fun and was planning to leave the UK for the sunshine of the Med. Those that know Geoff from the Owners Club Forum will possibly have spotted his new signature “do it while you can”. Well that’s exactly what he is going to do so go for it in Gozo Geoff !
Geoff left the Eastern Region in a state of extraordinary good health and those of us who are following on behind promise to look after it and most of all, keep having “MORE FUN”
