The Essex Boys Run
Last years Eastern Region run in Essex was like last years Spring Rally, very wet! With rain and floods, but for 2007 we had sunshine in Essex from start to finish.
The starting point for the run was Manningtree Railway Station car park where we had been promised excellent bacon butties and coffee from the station café and we were not disappointed either. I doubt the cafe has even done so much trade on a Sunday morning before as a continual stream of hungry Mazda drivers appeared at the counter.
We expected a good turn out but in the end it broke the previous Eastern Region records for a run with 31 Cars leaving the station to head off in to the wilds of North Essex. The first half off the run took us along the River Stour through Mistley out towards Harwich doubling back inland, via Debenham and Stoke-by-Nayland ending up in Sudbury at a very convenient Supermarket carpark. We were joined at this point by more cars bringing the total up to 33.
Heading off once more another 36 miles of Essex twisty, ( and a few wrong turns for some of us, including a very unscheduled drive through a ford!) saw us make the final destination, Gosfield Lakes where many picnics were eaten.
The run was a joint venture by “Essex boys” Matt Barber, Neil Barber and Ady Neill who are to be congratulated on a very successful day out.
