Machinery Club Steamers Day

Post date: 15-Nov-2012 01:31:33

The annual Steamers Day was held on Sunday 26th August. This is likely to be one of the last in the amazing Railway Workshop that currently houses the collection and restoration facilities, which will be a great shame.

The day started with a queue for breakfast. The club always does a great breakfast and the event was very well attended. The crowd takes this leisurely, whilst the members slowly start to fire up the various engines, big and small.

The first thing that strikes you is how quiet all the engines are. Just lots of clicks and clacks, and well lubricated bearings rotating. The second is how much steam and soot they put out, and then finally, how do all the moving parts seem to operate in their own individual timing loops, seemingly unrelated to any of the drive trains.

What would we have done without cams and camshafts? Speaking to some people who had never been before, they were all amazed at the event, and could not believe that we had such a well hidden secret here in Perth.

Sometimes it takes two to start one of these

To the MPC, congratulations on organising and running a great day.
