When I came back from Mongolia I was told I had had a psychosis NAO*. In UMC Utrecht I read a magazine of Vereniging Anoiksis. After UMC Utrecht I was sent to a specialized hospital Altrecht and the Spv'er there told me to go visit a seminar of Verenging Anoiksis. I went and wanted to run away, but stayed and did some volunteerwork for them and even was paid to help them with a new website. After a few years and being in their advisory committee, they told me I didn't belong with them because my diagnosis was different from theirs.
Verenging Anoiksis is a patient lead organization for patients with the diagnosis Schizophrenia. Most of the activities there are in the regions and the members do things together. Vereniging Anoiksis is different from Stichting Anoiksis. Stichting Anoiksis used its money to stimulate projects on stigma and peer health. A project had to be handed in on paper and the board of both Stichting Anoiksis as Vereniging Anoiksis decided if the project would get the money.
Afterwards I also worked as an entrepreneur with Stichting Anoiksis on various projects:
Veerkrachtfabriek, blog 'Veerkrachtfabriek' & 'Working in a team a blessing or a curse'
Dutch Health Hackathon, blog 'Dutch Health Hackathon'
Reality Keeper, blog 'Reality Keeper' & 'What is invloved in developing an app?'.
I was also on the board for a while as a secretary. So I was a paid board member and even made their 'jaarverslag' once.
*There are more diseases with the same symptoms and in my case the symptoms disappear with rest. Because I was not left alone or taken to the emergency room, there was already a bias in working. My advice is to go to all doctor's appointments alone and always connect with mental health professionals through your general practitioner or hospital emergency department.
