When the elections come close to Women's Day, it is interesting to see when women also had something to say in politics. I looked up 8 facts and a bonus that will hopefully happen in the future. I will explain these facts in an infographic.
As I have noticed, this infographic is about Women and Elections. Hereby I have indicated 8 facts and a bonus fact to be completed in the future about women and elections, namely:
First time women were allowed to vote
First time women could be elected in The Netherlands
First woman in the House of Representatives
First time women can vote as well as be elected
First woman in the first room (1e kamer)
First female administrator (Voorzitter 2e Kamer)
First female minister
First female party leader
And hopefully in the future first female prime minister.
I came up with this blog on Women’s Day 2021 when I saw something about New Zealand. On my travels through New Zealand I visited the parliament in Wellington and was surprised to learn that New Zealand was the first country to give women the right to vote. I contacted then my old colleagues at E-Quality and asked them if they knew about this fact.
* I worked at E-Quality from 2005 - 2007. E-Quality merged and became Atria in 2012.
