Free Schooling For Every Dutch Citizen
Every citizen of The Netherlands can use the ‘Stapbudget’ from this year on. Each year the Dutch can use 1.000 euro for education. The budget can be used also for coaching. With the ‘Stapbudget’ the government wants to stimulate people to keep on learning. Especially these days when work is changing to automation, which means there is more need for knowledge workers instead of blue-collar workers.
‘Stapbudget’
Stap in ‘Stapbudget’ stands for ‘Stimulering Arbeidsmarkt Positie', which means Stimulation of the labor market position. With the ‘Stapbudget’ I can keep on working till my pension, because if my work environment changes or I want to do other work I can use the ‘Stapbudget’ to get the position I want.
Apply For The ‘Stapbudget’
From this year on (2022) I can apply once a year for the ‘Stapbudget’. I am in the lead, because I can choose which education I want and when during the year I want to follow this schooling. This year there are still 3 periods I can apply for this budget. For the coming years it will be possible 6 times a year, each year. I can only use it once a year. I must choose wisely. The next one will be 3 July 2023.
Which Course
The ‘Stapbudget’ was carried out by UWV. UWV has a list of courses, training, seminars, and coaching which has been approved for the ‘Stapbudget’. The budget I have is 1.000 euro, which means UWV pays till the amount of 1.000 euro. If my course is more expensive than 1.000 euro, I have to pay the difference. If my course is less than 1.000 euro, UWV pays the amount of the course to the trainer/institution. I can’t use the difference for another course. The same goes for coaching and multi-year schooling. For the last one I can apply each year for 1.000 euro if I am above 30 years.
Big Data eCourse Laudius
The Big Data ecourse I co-developed for Laudius has also been approved for the ‘Stapbudget’. Which means the ecourse can be bought with the ‘Stapbudget’. If the ecourse Big Data is bought with the ‘Stapbudget’ there are strict rules when to start and how to finish the ecourse otherwise the ‘Stapbudget’ has to be paid back to UWV. This option is no longer available.
Stapbudget Dates
Stapbudget can't be used anymore for The Big Data eCourse with Laudius. July 2023 was the last Stapbudget that could be used for the Big Data eCourse. The last two Stapbudget periods can only be used for MBO/HBO or University.
Stapbudget Will Be Terminated Earlier Than Plannend
The 'Stapbudget' has been a success, lots of people were waiting in a digital row for a free course or coaching. Not all went well digitally and there was critic about the courses that were approved. My BigData eCourse survived all the critics and is still available through the 'Stapbudget'. For now the government decided to end the 'Stapbudget' on 1 January 2024. There will be no new schoolingbudget to replace the 'scholingsaftrek' in the income tax or the 'Stapbudget'.
