Plan to author an introductory text for the exhibition, orienting non-specialists to the raison d’être and highlights of your exhibition, generally consisting of no more than 270 words, which will serve as the opening panel of your selection. The Grolier Club assumes the costs of mounting for the posters; all final designs and texts are subject to approval in writing by the Grolier Club’s Director, Exhibitions Manager, and Public Exhibitions Chairperson.
Your graphic designer can work with you to create a final PDF of your introductory text, incorporating typefaces or graphic elements complementing those of your labels and other signage. Generally the introductory poster will be approximately 18” wide (height is variable) and mounted on .25” foamcore by the Grolier Club’s graphics firm.
Measuring 32" wide x 22" high; hung inside first wall case.
Measuring 18" wide x 24" high; hung on inner left wall of gallery.

In addition, many curators choose to use smaller thematic labels for each exhibition case, called “Section Labels.” These will vary in length according to your exhibition case designs, but ideally should not exceed three paragraphs. You may also opt to replicate the text you write for the gallery guide, if there is sufficient information in the guide to serve as context in each case. These case labels should be produced in the same design package as your introductory panel and promotional signage.
Alternatively, you may also choose to have decorative title labels in each of the wall cases. Like the section labels, the costs of production may be the responsibility of the curator.
Be sure to check each design well in advance with the Grolier Club Director and Exhibitions Manager.
The typefaces for such labels must be larger than 30 point in order to be legible.
We are able to print simple case labels in house on 8.5"x11" paper at no cost to the curator.
Alternatively, you may have your designer design the labels as 12"h x 16"w panels, to be printed with our collateral vendor.
Section labels are placed either on the label rail (if smaller than 6" in height) or in the top left corner of the cases to ensure we abide by accessibility guidelines for museum didactics.
First drafts of the section labels and intro panel are due ten weeks prior to the installation.
Further explanatory text in each case. Professional production costs are covered by the curator or sponsor.
The Grolier Club can also print these panels in house on 8.5" x 11" paper and mount akin to our object labels at no cost to the curator.
Title panels for each case. Production costs are responsibility of curator or sponsor. Typically 4-6in x 16-18"; 48-56pt font.
