Lutheranism
Holy Eucharist
· Instituted by Christ
· In, with and under the bread and wine are given the TRUE Body and Blood of Christ which was given into death for the forgiveness of sins.
· Forgiveness of Sins is given to those who believe, and judgment is given to those who eat and drink yet do not believe. (1 Corinthians 11:27-29)
· The supper is a confession of Faith (1 Cor. 11:26)
· The Supper comforts souls and strengthens the believer’s faith for service because it is GOD's work, not man's.
Communion is celebrated often.
SBC
Lord’s Supper
· Instituted by Christ so that members of the His church memorialize His death.
· Christ does not give forgiveness of sins through the Supper.
· Christ is not present in any way, neither physically nor spiritually.
· Partaking of the Lord’s supper is a symbolic act of obedience.
· Traditionally communion has been closed to non-Baptists, even Baptists of other congregations, though it is becoming more and more open.
