It was an early start from Nerang and our small group of 5 headed off to a secluded spot off the Lamington NP Rd to begin our walk. Originally we going to Fountain Falls but an earlier recce ruled this out. The first section was easy going following the pink tags through open rain forest down to the Blue Pool on the Canungra Creek. We then picked up the old NP trail which was quite overgrown and involved scrambling over, under and around fallen logs and numerous creek crossings. It was slow going but we eventually reached the top pool of Stairway Falls for a late morning tea. Two of our intrepid team took the plunge! Their exclamations and the look on their faces provided restraint for the rest of us. We then proceeded down to the beautiful Stairway Falls. On the way back there was a cave marked on the map not far from the track and after several explorations, we stumbled across it. We had a late lunch back at Blue Pool. A dip wasn’t on the agenda! The final challenge was getting back up the mountain to the cars. What goes down must come up! An enjoyable walk led by Roger.
