3 Aug Tallebudgera Greenspace Leader: Peggy M
The prediction of rain caused the planned walk along the Mailman's Track at Doon Doon to be postponed, with a Tallebudgera walk instead. 18 walkers left from the carpark at the northern end of the Gold Coast Highway's Tallebudgera Creek bridge. After crossing to the southern side they walked westward along the creek to the pedestrian bridge beside the M1. This led the group via Martin Sheil Park to Fleays for the usual tea and scones or to another nearby cafe in West Burleigh.
They then did the return walk along the northern creek side boardwalk and down via the Koala Park estate for lunch at the nearby picnic tables.
10 Aug Currumbin/Tugun: Creek and Hills Leader: Peter A
From the carpark beside Tugun Surf Club 23 bushies walked north to Currumbin Creek and followed it westward, having a coffee break at the Currumbin Fair bakery. A new direction then: southwards along Bienvenue Drive and upwards to the edge of the M1. The track through Hidden Valley under the motorway led us along the undulations as we turned east down to the Gold Coast Highway and the beachside park for lunch.
17 Aug Byron Bay/Brunswick Heads Leader: Helen S
22 walkers drove to Byron Bay to regroup and park at the Captain Cook Lookout on the way to the lighthouse. From here we followed the bush track and then the roadside path up to the top. Here the renovated outdoor cafe proved to be a great spot for coffee. There were some whale sightings as we descended via the surfside boardwalk to Wategos Beach for our lunch stop. Then it was a short walk back to the cars, with some members opting to have a walk around Brunswick Heads before driving back to the Gold Coast.
24 Aug Not the Springbrook Walks
The heavy rain predicted by forecasters did eventuate this day, so the Springbrook walks were postponed.
31 Aug Federation Walk at The Spit Leader: Robert F
16 bushies departed from the carpark beside Marina Mirage resort & gym to follow the track behind the dunes, taking us up to the seaway. After morning tea at the Seaway Cafe we returned southwards, with a few of the group walking along the beach instead of through the bush - and we didn't see the boa constrictor, but duly noted the sign!
OR Whale Watching Trip Co-ordinators: Josie B, Lynne M
Another group of 18 members also parked near Marina Mirage, but went out through the seaway on a whale-watching boat trip. It was an enjoyable and fruitful morning, with 8 whales and several pods of dolphins sighted.
OR Mount Warning Leader: Linda M
A third group of 8 climbers drove via Murwillumbah to the base of Mt Warning for an energetic morning's activity. 6 of the 8 went right to the top and enjoyed the view, despite some hovering clouds. They had morning tea on top and returned to the base by 1.30 pm so that one of the group could be in time for work.
