This walk was put on by Maurie Hansell at my request as a few members had discussed how beautiful & interesting this walk around his area was. The walk is where Maurie & Fay live, pretty close to Binna Burra. You just turn down a road on the right & come across a well-hidden residential area.
Only myself & 1 couple (intending members) plus Maurie signed up for the walk. We left his amazing home, ducked under a fence into a very lush field where some contented cows were munching away. We followed Back Creek along a path Maurie had cleared. (Room for improvement there but we had a laugh!) It was very pretty along the bank & a pond was covered with waterlilies. We went as far as an interesting cubby house built by some industrious children before we retraced our steps back to the house.
We were served morning tea/coffee & homemade cake before setting off to the Akoonah area. Maurie has put in a lot of work cleaning out the weeds & replanting natives with the help of Land Care. Very impressive! It was a most enjoyable walk through various vegetation but we noticed there was not much water at the start of Back Creek. It was a good walk back to the house 13ks in all & then we had a look at the ducks/chooks/fish being fed plus his netted orchard/veg garden.
It was a most enjoyable half day & THANK YOU very much Maurie for giving us your time. You certainly live in a great spot. Thanks to Fay too.
