Project Design
Identify standards-based activities that support the essential question, and involve the students in the project design, causing them to develop a sense of project ownership. Identify what is known about the problem and what needs to be known. Design a plan to address the problem.
Work Plan
Create a work breakdown of the project identifying the tasks and milestones of the project, and a timeline for completing the project components. Set benchmarks for the students to help them perceive their time limits and better manage their time.
Project Management
Guide students in performing the project work. Mentor the students in working collaboratively. Oversee student activities and provide structure and feedback as necessary.
Culminating and products
Culminating products are the presentations, papers, exhibits, or models that are completed during the project. Culminating products demonstrate a blend of knowledge and skills about a variety of topics. Often, these products are presented to audiences outside the classroom.
Assessment
Project learning requires a variety of assessments tied to the content standards, skills, and higherorder thinking outcomes of the project. Use multiple indicators of performance to give students with different strengths the opportunity to succeed in the project.
Evaluation
Schedule time at the end of the project for students to discuss, analyze and reflect on what they learned during the project. Have the students reflect on the essential question, the content they learned, and the process and outcomes of the project.
