After our Sumobot exploits, we began an offseason mini-challenge for our team. A scaled-down version of 2011-2012 Bowled Over! challenge, the volume restraints were also just over half-size. So, the mini-challenge was to build a 10x10x10 (with one inch extra in one dimension) robot, to flip rectangular crates, collect and dispense golf balls (instead of racquetballs), and push around softballs (instead of bowling balls).
The team was split into sub-teams, red and blue. Blue was made up of Ben and new recruit Alex. Red was Thomas and new recruit Paul. We were given three two-hour meetings to build our robots, and then one hour of a fourth meeting for practice runs.
The winning team was decided by which team had the highest single-round score after three rounds.
The Winning Team was........RED TEAM! Thomas and Paul's high score of 45 beat Ben and Alex's high of 32, despite the 45-point round being their only victory.
In other news, we have accepted an invitation to present a workshop on the Engineering Notebook at the North Carolina Kickoff Event on September 6th, having won the Think Award (Best Engineering Notebook) at the Raleigh Regional tournament last year. We are very excited to share our knowledge with other teams in the area. We also "moved" into a new work area, The Garage (literally).
And one more thing - We now have a Facebook page: www.facebook.com/biobots5950
GO BIO-BOTS!
