At the NC A&T Aggieland State Tournament last Sunday, the Bio-Bots performed admirably. A 4-4 record throughout the tournament, a double hang on the practice field, and almost one in competition.
On a practice field before any matches, we and 7300 Ashebots successfully completed a double hang. Unfortunately, we were not paired with them in any matches.
In the first match of the day, we were paired with 6049 Firebots against 731 Wannabee Strange and 6972 I.C.E. Crew. We lost 186-119.
Paired with 6049 Mechanical Marauders, we set our high score with 273, against 2901 Purple Gears and 7083 Team Tundrabots, who had 163.
In match 3, we were paired with 6425 Dino Bots against 5459 Syntax Error and 7210 Black Mesa. Our alliance was again victorious 154-136.
A double hang was talked about with 3587 Unparalleled Processing, but we didn't attempt it in a 186-150 victory over 7300 Ashebots and
6122 Perdix revenge.
In our final match with 668 Art's Legacy, we were unable to continue the streak and lost 268-217 to 5309 Plan B and 7576 Blue Porcupines.
Plan B was the first seed, followed by 5064 Aperture Science, Wannabee Strange, and Team Tundrabots. We finished 8th. Plan B invited Aperture to join their alliance, and the stadium was surprised when they accepted. That moved up #5 Mechanical Marauders into the ranks of captains. Wannabee Strange selected Unparalleled Processing, Tundrabots selected Dino Bots, and the Mechanical Marauders selected us.
As the #4 alliance, we were matched up against #1 Plan B and Aperture Science, whom the Marauders nicknamed "the god team."
Well, they didn't play like gods as Aperture's robot had problems and we upset them by a large margin in Round 1. But they were back in for
Round 2 and they beat us. Then they got into champion form and destroyed us 366-266 in one of the highest-scoring matches of the day. We attempted a side-by-side double-hang, but the Marauders' bucket got caught on our wheel and they were unable to hook the bar.
After Plan B and Aperture defeated Wannabee Strange and Unparalleled Processing in three rounds, the awards were given out. Plan B also
won the Inspire Award for the second straight year. We were awarded the Control Award, a first-year award for "innovative thinking in the control system to solve game challenges, such as autonomous operation, enhancing mechanical systems with intelligent control, or using sensors to achieve better results."
All in all, we were very proud of our performance. Our autonomous program missed scoring the block once and got stuck on the ramp twice. Our pulley system got stuck twice, but we were still able to score proficiently. Awesome day!
Congratulations to Plan B (1st place Inspire/Winning Alliance Captain), Syntax Error (2nd place Inspire),
Aperture Science (Winning Alliance Partner) and Purple Gears (3rd place Inspire) for advancing to the South Super Regional Competition.
