Reserva Natural Guadualito is located near the town of Montenegro, Quindío, in the Central Andes of Colombia (4° 34' 10.75" N, 75° 48' 34.80" W), at 1200 meters (3,900 feet) over sea level, with a mild tropical mountain climate, amid cattle farms, and banana and coffee plantations. The reserve is 22 km (14 miles) from Armenia, the province’s capital, an easy-going town of 300,000 inhabitants. Access to the reserve is through secondary and tertiary roads, except for a final 1.1 km (0.7 miles) gravel lane that serves four farms and ends at Guadualito. This almost private access gives the reserve one of its major advantages –it is away from major roads, in a quiet and safe area with no through traffic. In Guadualito we still can afford sleeping with open doors.
