Google Maps StreetView Player
As Steve Mac's getaway places list stokes a budding wanderlust, added to the wanderer's toolkit is this potentially handy traveler's tool, a road trip preview app.
● Google Maps StreetView Player is a computer/smartphone web app, as well as Android app, that "animates any entered trip…will take in either a starting point and end point [generally "town, country"], or a provided file of a route and provide a playthrough of the Google Streetview images that are available…the speed of the animation can be sped up or slowed down within the player. You can also change the animation's frames per second, show walking, biking, and transit routes, and even upload coordinates from your own file" - Boing Boing. Once a tour route is generated, you can further download it as an animated gif (typically viewed in a browser), as well as share it as a link (Note: While the player works pretty well, it may stop displaying images/hang for some specified start/end points)
Companion Start & End Point Resource:
● The e-book "National Geographic Drives of a Lifetime: 500 of the World's Most Spectacular Trips, Kindle Edition" generally provides a copy-able "from/to" listing (e.g. "FROM: Tossa de Mar, Spain TO: Cadaqués, Spain") below each route map that can be pasted into the Player app, & is available from Amazon
