Psych Profile:
Zin is about six feet tall, and has a lean build. He has short brown hair that's starting to be flecked with gray. His hair is a little shaggy for the military. He also has bright blue eyes that are marked by mechanical designs, as his eyes have been replaced with ocular implants. The skin around his eyes is also marked by a few very small, fine scars.
Zin is a deceptively laid-back man, seemingly devoid of ambition beyond being a security man. He is a charming man, easy to talk to and quick with a smile. He's very intelligent and highly-trained in his field, though he also covers that with his easygoing nature. He often lets people think he's much slower than he actually is. Zin is a very still and watchful man, not given to wasting a lot of energy on things.
He is also a very straightforward man, and he doesn't like people to think that they're getting something over on him. He's direct and honest in his dealings with other people. Zin is a decent hand-to-hand fighter but is an excellent marksman with a phaser, and trains frequently in the handling of his weapons.
Zin was born in Jalanda City on Bajor during the Cardassian Occupation, the third and final child in his family. His father owned a restaurant and his mother was an artisan who worked in the city under the Occupation. His family tried to keep their heads down as much as possible and stay alive. When Zin was
four years old, he accidentally got caught in a sudden fight between Occupation forces and the Resistance, and some shrapnel from an explosion blinded him. The young boy barely survived, but he had lost the use of his eyes. Zin learned how to cope with his blindness, as his parents couldn't get the most advanced treatment for his wounds to give him sight again.
When the Occupation finally ended, and Federation assistance arrived, Zin was fitted for a VISOR by Federation doctors. For the first time in years, Zin was able to see again. His time spent with the Federation doctors also brought him stories of new worlds and space, and Zin soon became eager to leave the damaged world of post-Occupation Bajor behind him. When he was 18, he enrolled in the Bajoran Military Academy and upon his graduation was assigned to security on Deep Space 9. He learned the basics of security and tactical work, investigative procedures, and as a militia member on Deep Space 9, had access to some Starfleet training systems to enhance his skills. Zin was a fast learner, but found that strict military life wasn't for him. He still wanted to see more of the universe.
When his first tour was up four years later, Zin left the Militia and struck out on his own. He started working as a security contractor for private security firms. He took jobs anywhere they sent him. He worked security on merchant vessels, bodyguard jobs for high-profile figures, and as a hired police officer for colony work. His contracts usually didn't last more than a year or two at a time, and it kept him moving around. He eventually was able to get a set of ocular implants to replace his VISOR, and the enhanced vision helped him in his work. He can still see in different wavelengths, night vision, and telescopic vision.
Zin likes traveling around and seeing different sights, and he enjoys security work. He discovered a talent and an enjoyment for police jobs, and prefers that aspect of security work the most. He embraces every opportunity to exercise his mind as far as his job is concerned, and has had training in advanced police work, such as forensics, surveillance, interrogation and investigations.
During one of his security details, his security firm was contracted to help pull out a group of Federation workers from the colony on Quitis, which was recently having trouble with colonists calling for a coup from the current governance on the colony. The personnel still connected to the Federation were in danger of being captured by the rebels and requested immediate help. Zin was working for the security firm which was paid to provide security for the far-off colony, and he was part of the team sent to get the Federation personnel off the colony. The raid involved a bit of hard fighting, but eventually the security forces managed to get to the Federation personnel and got them off the planet.
That was when Zin met Nadija Lyra. On the flight back to Ipsilon Taurii VI, Zin got to know one of the doctors pulled from Quitis. Nadija Lyra was a Trill doctor, and while she generally kept to herself, Zin was intrigued by her. She had displayed grace under pressure back on Quitis, and he tried to get to know her better, despite her tendency to withdraw. By the time they arrived on Ipsilon Taurii VI, he discovered they were staying at the same hotel, and made several more attempts to get to know her. Nadija was an intelligent woman who seemed to be alone behind the wall she put up, and he pressed forward. She spent more time with him, and he enjoyed her company more. When she made mention of another posting she was seeking on a small diplomatic vessel, he considered going for a position of his own. He realized that he'd regret it if they went their separate ways now, and so he pursued a security position on the same ship she was on. If worse came to worse, he could depart the ship when the leg of the journey he was contracted for ended, and that would be that.
It was a small ship, and he ran into Nadija often. She kept her wall up, resisting his overtures, but he persevered. Nadija still intrigued him, but he began to think he'd just been making a fool of himself when she rebuffed him time and again. But to his surprise, she began to stay in the mess hall where before she'd eat and leave without company. She accepted his invitations, and they began a slow, careful courtship. He could tell she was a woman who needed time and didn't open up easily, but when she did, he came to love her.
The captain of the ship they served on performed the service, and they made things official. When the tour on that ship concluded, they found out about the FSP Spartan, and both made their applications.
Zin Bodan is, for all intents and purposes, a perfectly fine security professional. He appears to not care about being in charge of anybody, and in fact seems to chafe a bit under constant supervision. He doesn't care about promotions or accolades, so much as just getting the job done and going home alive at the end of the day. He is charming and good with people, and enjoys talking to just about anybody. He's quick to joke and has a wry sense of humor. He has a quiet, simple way of speaking, but underneath all of that is a well of great anger, usually turned towards people who hurt and take advantage of others. The anger may stem from as far back as when he was hurt as a child during the Occupation. Whatever the reason, Zin shows no mercy to people who hurt others.
